History & Services

HISTORY

Court House, Inc., now Beacon Center, was founded in 1969 by Judge Marvin Foote of the 18th judicial district. At the time, youth who were detained in jail were often placed with adult offenders. Judge Foote found this practice detrimental to the success of juvenile rehabilitation and created a separate facility for these adolescents. Fellow judges joined him as the first Board of Directors, hence the original name – Court House, Inc.

Today, three separate facilities provide residential treatment to adolescent boys and girls – Marilee Center, Daybreak-Princeton Center and Daybreak Center.

In over 35 years of our program, Beacon Center has served over 12,000 adolescents, achieving licensure as a Residential Treatment Center, a Residential Child Care Facility, and an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program. Also, the agency is currently accredited by the Council of Accreditation.

Our residential facilities provide a home-style, structured, nurturing environment to help residents make effective and positive changes in themselves. Our facilities are designed to help the residents reach their highest potential and to achieve the best quality of life for themselves and their families.
